Interdisciplinary tumour conference for your individual therapy planning
Every successful breast cancer treatment begins with a precise diagnosis and an individualised plan. In our weekly tumour conference, specialists from gynaecology, radiology, pathology, oncology, radiotherapy and surgery work together to develop your individual treatment plan.
We take this into account:
- Type, stage and size of the tumour
- Your personal circumstances and wishes
- Pre-existing conditions and individual risk factors
- Your family situation and professional requirements
Yours Individual therapy plan follows the current guidelines of the German Society of Senology and is also based on our key quality standard in therapy, which is to preserve the breast instead of removing it. We discuss our treatment recommendation with you promptly and organise the further necessary procedure immediately. All examination and operation results are presented and discussed on an ongoing basis at the weekly tumour conference.
This is done both before a possible necessary operation (pre-operative tumour conference) as well as after any necessary surgery (post-operative tumour conference).
State-of-the-art therapy methods for better chances of recovery
From breast-conserving surgery to targeted antibody therapies and precise radiotherapy - we rely on innovative procedures that improve your chances of recovery while preserving your quality of life.
Structured aftercare over the years
Breast cancer aftercare begins at the end of treatment. In addition to regular follow-up appointments with your gynaecologist, our breast centre will continue to accompany you - especially with regard to regular imaging checks to detect any recurrences or metastases at an early stage and ensure your long-term health.
Here you can find out more about rehabilitation and aftercare following breast cancer treatment.
Holistic care for body and soul
In addition to medical excellence, we offer you psycho-oncological support, exercise therapy and social legal support - so that you can return to your everyday life not only physically but also emotionally strengthened.
Treatment options for breast cancer
The treatment of breast cancer includes various therapy options that can be individually combined depending on the clinical picture. As part of our care, we will explain all the steps in detail and answer your questions.
There are essentially three different therapies available for the treatment of breast cancer:
- Operation
- Radiotherapy
- Drug therapy (chemotherapy, anti-hormone therapy, antibody therapy)
Breast-conserving surgery and mastectomy
Surgery is usually the first step in removing the tumour. We prefer to use breast-conserving procedures where medically justifiable.
The most important facts about the operation:
- Breast-conserving surgery: Preferred method for early diagnosis and smaller tumours
- Mastectomy: Necessary for larger tumours and in the case of proven genetic predisposition and mutations, or possible at your express request
- Sentinel lymph node examination: Shows whether the cancer has spread to lymph nodes
- Our goal: Oncological safety with the best possible cosmetic result
The sentinel lymph node is the first lymph node in the tumour area in which tumour cells could be found. If it is not affected by tumour cells, it is less likely that the cancer has spread to other lymph nodes or organs. Here you can find out more about the so-called Sentinel lymph node procedure and about the Surgical therapy.
Radiotherapy after breast cancer surgery
Radiotherapy of the affected region often complements surgery. Modern radiotherapy precisely targets tumour cells, but largely spares healthy tissue.
When is radiotherapy used?
- After breast-conserving surgery to destroy remaining cancer cells
- For certain tumour characteristics even after mastectomy
- For the treatment of lymph node infestation
- To reduce the risk of recurrence by up to 70 per cent

Chemotherapy for breast cancer
Chemotherapy fights cancer cells throughout the body. It can be used before or after surgery and is given in cycles. The aim is to destroy even microscopically small cells that could otherwise grow again later.
Modern concomitant treatment for better tolerability:
Side effects such as nausea, hair loss or fatigue can be alleviated well nowadays. Our oncologists will support you throughout your chemotherapy and adapt the treatment to your condition if necessary. Modern medication to alleviate side effects enables many patients to organise their everyday lives as normally as possible. In our breast centre, so-called “cooling caps” are also used during chemotherapy, which have been proven to significantly reduce therapy-related hair loss.

Anti-hormone therapy for hormone-dependent tumours
Many forms of breast cancer grow as a result of hormones such as oestrogen. In such hormone-dependent tumours, anti-hormone therapy inhibits tumour growth by blocking oestrogen or other sex hormones.
Important facts about anti-hormone therapy:
- Usually carried out over 5 to 10 years
- Significantly reduces the risk of relapse
- Part of long-term therapy after completion of initial treatment
- Is an important part of aftercare
Further details on anti-hormone therapy can be found here.
Antibody therapy and targeted cancer treatment
Targeted therapies have a highly specific effect on the characteristics of the tumour cells. For HER2-positive breast cancer, so-called antibody-drug conjugates are used. (e.g. T-DM1) for use.
These modern treatments combine:
- Cell-destroying substances with a targeted effect
- Precise binding to tumour cells
- Protection of healthy cells
- Significantly improved chances of cure for aggressive tumours
The therapy is used individually according to your risk profile and offers many women with aggressive tumours new treatment prospects.
Further details on antibody therapy for breast cancer can be found here.
Breast reconstruction after mastectomy
If a breast has to be removed, there are various reconstruction methods available: with implants or with your own tissue. Our plastic surgery experts will provide you with comprehensive advice on the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods.
Surgical options - depending on the clinical picture:
- Immediate reconstruction directly during the mastectomy
- Later reconstruction after completion of all therapies
- Reconstruction with silicone implants
- Reconstruction with autologous tissue
Here you can find out more about the plastic surgery treatment options for breast cancer.
The oncological care concept
In addition to medical care, cancer patients also require specialised nursing care. Nurses make a significant contribution to the oncological treatment team with their specific expertise and competence so that patients and their relatives can better cope with the effects of the disease and therapy.
In addition to sound basic training, comprehensive specialist knowledge is essential and is ensured through further oncological training. The two-year in-service training to become an oncological specialist nurse complies with European standards and is carried out in accordance with the Guidelines of the German Hospital Federation (DKG) carried out.
Oncological nursing staff in our Breast Centre have the necessary expertise, continuity of care and a key position as an interface between the medical team, patient and relatives.
Psycho-oncological support during therapy
Breast cancer changes your life. In addition to the physical challenges, anxiety often arises: fear of the cancer returning, uncertainty about the future or stress in relationships and families.
As part of their inpatient stay, we offer our breast cancer patients consultations with our psycho-oncologist and also support them afterwards in their search for long-term psycho-oncological support.
What psycho-oncological support does:
- Helps to process the diagnosis
- Supports you in dealing with therapy stress
- Strengthens your confidence in your body
- Proven to improve quality of life
- Also accompanies relatives through the difficult time
Psychological support is also an integral part of aftercare and helps many patients to regain confidence in their ability to perform.
