Register for your birth now!

The birth of your child is one of the most important experiences in the life of a mother - and an entire family. At the Dr Geisenhofer Women's Clinic in Munich, we accompany you from registration for the birth to discharge with experience, security and the full spectrum of modern obstetrics.

At our clinic, you can give birth with an hospital physician or with a private doctor. Regardless of how you decide: Our midwives and the specialist doctors on duty are on site around the clock to attend your birth.

Delivery with private physician

What is a private physician?

An attending physician is a gynaecologist in private practice who is not employed by the hospital but provides personal care during childbirth. They accompany expectant mothers throughout pregnancy and are present at the birth, serving as a trusted point of contact for all questions related to pregnancy, birth preparation and delivery. However, it is not necessary to transfer your antenatal care to an attending physician. You may continue seeing your regular gynaecologist throughout your pregnancy and choose an attending physician solely for the birth.

This means for you:

  • If you wish, you will be accompanied by a trusted doctor from your antenatal clinic
  • The birth takes place safely in our clinic, with midwives, operating theatre and paediatric intensive care unit (neonatology)
  • If your baby is in such a hurry that your attending doctor cannot make it to the delivery room in time, our hospital's own specialists will take over together with our attending midwife team.

How to register for the birth with an private doctor

  1. Choose your attending physician
  2. Make an appointment
  3. At the appointment - your attending doctor will talk to you about the progress of your pregnancy so far, perform an ultrasound scan and discuss all questions relating to the birth with you - from birth planning to the mode of birth (vaginal birth or caesarean section). There will also be room for anything that concerns you personally.
  4. Registration for the birth - Your attending doctor will take care of registration at our clinic after your appointment. You do not have to take care of this yourself.
  5. Continue as usual - the rest of your pregnancy care will continue to be provided by your gynaecologist - or, if you wish, directly by your attending physician.
  6. Delivery - Your attending physician will accompany you personally during labour and delivery.

FAQs

When should I register for the birth?

You should register for the birth as early as possible, as clinics can only attend a limited number of births. An appointment between the 20th and 25th week of pregnancy is ideal.

What do I need for the birth registration?

You will need your maternity pass and your insurance card to register for the birth.

What does childbirth at the Dr Geisenhofer Women's Clinic cost?

The Dr Geisenhofer Women’s Clinic is a private clinic — however, patients with statutory health insurance are very welcome. Single rooms and family rooms are not usually covered by statutory health insurance and must be paid for by the patient. For detailed information on costs, please contact us directly.

Is an attending physician a chief physician?

No. A ‘Belegärzt:in’ is a gynaecologist with their own practice and their own contract with the health insurance fund — not a member of the hospital team employed by the hospital. A ‘Chefärzt:in’, on the other hand, is a senior member of staff at the hospital.

What is the difference between a midwife and an attending midwife?

An affiliated midwife — much like an affiliated doctor — works on a self-employed basis, but supports her patients during childbirth in a hospital. A permanent midwife is employed directly by the hospital. At our maternity clinic, affiliated midwives work alongside the medical team or affiliated doctor to support births and provide expectant mothers with expert guidance and reassurance.
