What is a breast centre?
A breast centre specialises in breast conditions, particularly breast cancer. Unlike in a single practice, the staff here work Gynaecologists, radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, radiotherapists and plastic surgeons closely together. In a joint tumour board meeting They draw up a treatment plan for each patient.
A Certified breast cancer centre in Munich Like the BzaEG, it must demonstrate every year that it meets the requirements of the German Cancer Society – such as minimum case numbers, standardised procedures and treatment in accordance with current guidelines.
You’ve come to the right place if:
- if your gynaecologist has detected an abnormal finding in your breast,
- if you have been diagnosed with breast cancer,
- if you would like to seek a second opinion on your diagnosis or treatment,
- You have an increased family history of breast cancer and would like some advice.
A breast cancer diagnosis – what now?
Following a diagnosis or an abnormal finding, things often move more quickly than many patients expect. This is how the process works at our Breast Centre:
- First contact: You or your gynaecologist should contact our case management team. We will arrange an appointment for an initial breast cancer consultation at our Breast Centre in Munich.
- Diagnostics: If this has not already been done, a mammogram, an ultrasound scan and, if necessary, an MRI scan will be carried out by our radiology partner, who specialises in breast diagnostics in Munich. If the findings are inconclusive, a tissue sample (biopsy) will be taken; the results are usually available after around two working days.
- Tumour conference: Specialists from all disciplines discuss your results together and recommend a treatment plan.
- Treatment: We will discuss the recommendation with you in detail. Any surgery will take place here at the Dr Geisenhofer Gynaecological Clinic. Further treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, will be carried out by our partner organisations.
- Aftercare: Even after your treatment, we will continue to support you, in collaboration with your gynaecologist, and help you with your rehabilitation and return to everyday life.

What sets our Breast Centre apart
- Certified since 2007: The BzaEG is certified in accordance with the requirements of the German Cancer Society and the German Society for Senology, as well as to DIN EN ISO 9001. TÜV SÜD and OnkoZert carry out annual audits to verify that we meet these requirements.
- Treatment planned jointly: At the weekly tumour board meeting, specialists from all disciplines discuss your findings – both before and after an operation. These discussions are based on the latest guidelines, as well as your personal circumstances and wishes.
- Breastfeeding whenever possible: Where medically appropriate, we perform breast-conserving surgery.
- Personal case management: Our case managers coordinate your appointments, help you with forms and answer any organisational questions – from your first contact right through to aftercare.
- Care provided by a Breast Care Nurse: On our ward, you will be looked after by a nurse specialising in oncology.
- A quiet location in the heart of Munich: The case management team and ward are located at the Dr Geisenhofer Women’s Clinic, right next to the English Garden.
- No long waiting times: Short-notice bookings are possible.
Our patients often find themselves in extremely unusual circumstances. It is important to us to respond to their individual needs and to provide them with as comprehensive information as possible about their diagnosis and treatment options. Together, we will find the best and safest form of treatment.

Frequently asked questions about the Breast Centre
Breast centre or breast clinic – what’s the difference?
„Breast clinic“ is not a protected term. A certified breast centre, on the other hand, must demonstrate every year that it meets the requirements of the German Cancer Society. Anyone looking for a breast clinic in Munich should therefore check for this certification.
How can I tell if a breast centre is good?
Key criteria include certification by the German Cancer Society, regular multidisciplinary tumour board meetings, sufficient experience in breast cancer surgery, and a dedicated point of contact for you. The BzaEG has been certified since 2007 and is reviewed annually.
Do I need a bank transfer?
A referral from your gynaecologist is helpful, but not necessary for your first contact with our case management team. Please feel free to ring us directly.
Will the health insurance cover the costs?
Yes. The costs of diagnosis and treatment in cases of suspected breast cancer are covered by statutory and private health insurance schemes.
Can I get a second opinion from you?
Yes. Please bring your previous test results and scans with you, so that we don’t have to repeat all the tests.
Can I come to see you even if I’m from outside Munich?
Yes. We welcome patients from Munich and all over Bavaria. Our case management team coordinates appointments so that you have as few journeys as possible. If you’re looking for a breast centre in Bavaria, you’ll find us in the heart of Munich, easily accessible by public transport and by car.
